Why choose us?

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Rockdale is an inclusive, multi-cultural community. The high standards we set are reflected in the way our students respect themselves and others. Dedicated, experienced and enthusiastic teachers know each child as an individual and deliver strong academic results accordingly.

Diversity is our greatest strength as we offer students a great array of co-curricular activities for them to find their passions. Catholic values underpin the way we teach and close engagement with parents means everyone plays a part in preparing our young people for an exciting future.

Principal’s Message

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Rockdale, we are blessed to be a vibrant, welcoming and multicultural community grounded in the rich traditions of faith, generosity and love. Inspired by St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and guided by the humble strength of St Joseph, we strive each day to live out their examples of courage, compassion and service.

Our learners are encouraged to grow in faith and character, to respect the dignity of every person, and to pursue excellence in all areas of learning. Our classrooms are joyful, engaging and inclusive spaces where curiosity is nurtured and every child is known, valued and supported.

We take pride in offering a curriculum that responds to the diverse needs of our students. Specialist support in English as an Additional Language, Diverse Learning Needs, Literacy Intervention and Gifted Education helps ensure that each child is able to flourish. Our dedicated teachers in Creative Arts, Drama, Music and Physical Education foster students’ skills and confidence across a wide range of creative and sporting pursuits.

Students are also enriched through a variety of extra‑curricular experiences including sport gala days, chess competitions, Mini Vinnies and representative sport. These opportunities allow our young people to develop leadership, teamwork, resilience and a deep sense of service to others.

We continue to be inspired by the words of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop:
“Never see a need without doing something about it.”
This message remains at the heart of who we are and who we aspire to be as a Catholic school community.

I hope this website provides you with a meaningful glimpse into the spirit and life of our wonderful school. We warmly invite you to connect with us and discover the unique place that is St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Rockdale.

History

Our school was established in 1892 with 88 students under the guidance of the Sisters of Charity. In 1912 the Sisters of St Joseph’s took over the leadership of the school and the Parish of St Joseph’s, Rockdale was established. In 1994 the first lay Principal was appointed and, in recent years, the facilities have undergone minor refurbishment to create the modern school it is today.

Charism

We have a strong focus on Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and her devotion to God. We trust that our school values and a love of learning will go with our students as they become mature members of society, carrying on Mary MacKillop’s vision and serving one another in Faith, Generosity and Love.
