Why choose us?

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Rockdale is an inclusive, multi-cultural community. The high standards we set are reflected in the way our students respect themselves and others. Dedicated, experienced and enthusiastic teachers know each child as an individual and deliver strong academic results accordingly.

Diversity is our greatest strength as we offer students a great array of co-curricular activities for them to find their passions. Catholic values underpin the way we teach and close engagement with parents means everyone plays a part in preparing our young people for an exciting future.

Principal’s Message

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Rockdale is a friendly and welcoming multicultural community embedded within the parish of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Rockdale. Children are encouraged to respect others and strive to achieve their best in all areas of learning. Our classrooms are happy, engaging and interactive learning spaces.

The diverse needs of our students are met through an engaging curriculum that contextualises learning and identifies and caters for the individual needs of all students. The school offers specialist teaching in the areas of English as a Second Language, Special Needs, Reading Recovery and Gifted Education. Art, Drama Music and PE teachers foster skill development in a variety of sporting and creative areas. Extra-curricular opportunities are offered through sporting gala days, chess competitions, Science Week, fun club, peer tutoring, Mini Vinnies and representative sport.

We are inspired by the words of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop: “Never see a need without doing something about it.”

St Josephs Catholic Primary School, Rockdale Principals Message

History

Our school was established in 1892 with 88 students under the guidance of the Sisters of Charity. In 1912 the Sisters of St Joseph’s took over the leadership of the school and the Parish of St Joseph’s, Rockdale was established. In 1994 the first lay Principal was appointed and, in recent years, the facilities have undergone minor refurbishment to create the modern school it is today.

Charism

We have a strong focus on Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and her devotion to God. We trust that our school values and a love of learning will go with our students as they become mature members of society, carrying on Mary MacKillop’s vision and serving one another in Faith, Generosity and Love.

Mission

St Mary MacKillop said: “Never see a need without doing something about it.”

  • with Love, deepening our relationship with God and all creation.

Vision

We are part of a community united in the person of Jesus Christ and inspired by St Mary MacKillop under the patronage of Saint Joseph. We aspire to lead faith-filled lives according to Gospel values.
